CITY OF BEACON COMPOSTING<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Want to help reduce your effect on\u00a0climate change? Participate in Beacon\u2019s residential\u00a0compost program where you can drop off food waste for free.\u00a0 Collection sites are located at Beacon Recreation Center, Memorial Park and Churchill St. parking lot.\u00a0 Composting is a great way to reduce the waste burned at the county incinerator in Poughkeepsie.\u00a0 Burning our waste at “Waste-to-energy” facilities\u00a0contributes to unsafe air conditions by “releasing harmful chemicals and pollutants\u201d (NRDC.org, Burned: Why Waste Incineration Is Harmful).\u00a0 Discounted household collection bins\u00a0are for sale online<\/a> and at the Recreation Center (23 W. Center St.)\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]TAKE THE CHECK-IN SURVEY<\/a>!\u00a0 We would request that if you use the drop-sites, you participate in the data collection efforts connected to this pilot.\u00a0The purpose of this data collection is to estimate how much organic waste is being diverted, understand how to support more Beaconites to compost, and potentially expand this initiative. Please help by providing us with feedback on your experience!<\/p>\n
