Building department application forms reflect the new fees.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\r\n<p><strong>The Building Department is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.\u00a0<\/strong><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\r\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph -->Examples of projects that require a building permit include:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">New construction<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Enlargement<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Alteration<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Improvement<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Relocation or removal of any building or structure or part thereof.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Installation of a solid fuel-burning appliance, chimney or flue.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Installation or modification of an automatic fire extinguishing system, fire alarm or detection system, fire pumps, and related equipment.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Generators or standpipe system Installation of above ground pools and hot tubs.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->The Building Inspector performs plumbing inspections and all other inspections that are required during various phases of construction. In addition, the required fire\/property maintenance inspections of multiple dwellings, assembly and other commercial occupancies are conducted by Building Department personnel. City inspectors handle school inspections and post public assembly occupancies, as well.<\/p>\r\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->The Building Department reviews qualifications and tests plumbers and electricians for licensing. Applications are available on our Forms and Documents page.<\/p>\r\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->The Building Inspector serves as the Zoning and Flood Plain Administrator, answering all questions posed to the Planning Board or Zoning Board of Appeals.<\/p>\r\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\u00a0<\/p>\r\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Code Enforcement&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;2&#8243;][vc_column_text]\r\n<h2>CODE ENFORCEMENT<\/h2>\r\n<p>Code Enforcement addresses property violations such as litter, high grass, abandoned vehicles and graffiti.<\/p>\r\n<p>A copy of the City of Beacon Code is available on our\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityofbeacon.org\/index.php\/permits-forms-fee-schedule\/\">Forms and Documents<\/a>\u00a0page.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Short-Term Rentals&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1716579539333-9fab5169-5a2c&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\r\n<p><strong>Pursuant to \u00a7 223-26.5 of the Code of the City of Beacon,<\/strong> <em>it shall be unlawful to use, establish, maintain, operate, occupy, rent or lease any property as a short-term rental without first having obtained a short-term rental permit. A short-term rental is defined as an entire dwelling unit, or a room or group of rooms within a dwelling unit, made available to rent, lease or otherwise assigned for a occupancy of less than 30 consecutive days. The dwelling unit must be used by the owner or tenant as his or her or their primary residence. The term \u201cshort-term rental\u201d does not include dormitories, hotel or motel rooms, bed and breakfast inns or lodging houses, as permitted and regulated by the City of Beacon Zoning Ordinance.
