The Facility is open between the hours of 7:30am -2:30pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Up to 250 lbs of large and bulk garbage may be brought without charge during the course of the season.<\/p>\n<p>This service is available for City of Beacon residents who are up to date on their taxes.<\/p>\n<p>Note: items that currently are NOT accepted to be dumped in our dumpster at the transfer station on a per pound basis are excluded from the 250 lb. allowance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bulk Leaf Pickup<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There will be no bulk leaf pickup in the springtime. Residents who wish to have leaves picked up must bag them beforehand.<\/p>\n<p><strong>City of Beacon Composting Program<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The City of Beacon has begun implementing the 2022 Community Compost Pilot Program, which features both backyard bins and community drop sites for compostable waste. Curbside pick-up of yard waste, brush, and leaves provided by City Highway Dept.<br \/>\n3. Drop-off Transfer Station for bulk garbage, recyclables, and yard waste<br \/>\n4. Single stream material does not have to be separated and can be placed in one container. All recyclable items (bottles, cans, plastic and paper) can be placed in the recycling bin provided by Royal Carting.Do not use plastic bags. All materials must be empty of food residue and rinsed. It is not required to remove labels from cans. Glass should not be broken.<\/p>\n<p>If additional garbage or recycling cans are needed, they can be purchased from the Highway Department for an additional fee.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What can be recycled?<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Glass Bottles: Juice, wine, ketchup, food and canning jars, all colors, etc.<br \/>\n\u2022 Metal: Canned foods, aluminum, coat hangers, pet food, food trays, etc.<br \/>\n\u2022 Plastic Containers: Dairy jugs, juice, water, shampoo, dish washing and laundry detergent, bleach, soda, etc.<br \/>\n\u2022 Mixed Paper: Newspapers, books, junk mail (including envelopes with clear plastic windows), glossy flyers and magazines, copy paper, corrugated (e.g. shipping boxes) and non-corrugated boxes (e.g. cereal and shoe boxes), construction paper, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Unacceptable materials for mixed residential recycling:<br \/>\nYellow and padded envelopes, overnight delivery packaging, paper towels, tissues, wipes, carbon paper, photographs, x-rays and MRIs, plastic transparencies, Styrofoam, bubble wrap, etc.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What cannot be recycled at the curb?<\/strong><br \/>\nMetal pots, broken glass, ceramics, latex paint cans<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FAQ on Trash and Recycling:<\/p>\n<p>What can I do with latex paint?<br \/>\n<em>Please put sawdust or kitty litter in latex paint can, let dry and dispose of in household garbage, not recycling.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Recycle paint by finding a drop site <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paintcare.org\/states\/new-york\/\">here<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p><em><br \/>\n<\/em>What numbers on plastics are acceptable in City of Beacon Recycling?<br \/>\n<em>Please disregard the numbers. Most rigid plastic bigger than a credit card can be put in the single stream recycling bin. Please dispose of your plastic utensils, Styrofoam, straws, etc. in the household garbage.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>What day is my garbage picked up?<br \/>\n<em>Garbage and Recycling pickup is weekly on your neighborhood\u2019s designated trash day. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofbeacon.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Doc2.pdf\">Please click here for a weekly schedule by street.<\/a><br \/>\nPickup is delayed by one day during weeks with the following holidays:<br \/>\no New Year\u2019s Day<br \/>\no Labor Day<br \/>\no Memorial Day<br \/>\no Thanksgiving<br \/>\no July 4th<br \/>\no Christmas<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Bins: Royal Carting supplies each residence with a standardized garbage can and recycle bin.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>If your household needs an additional garbage can or recycle bin, please contact the Highway Department at 845-831-0932. If you would like a new sticker for your recycling bin, please stop by City Hall or the Transfer station.<\/p>\n<p>____________________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yard Waste Pickup<\/strong><br \/>\nGrass clippings and leaves: Place leaves in brown paper leaf collection bags (or other biodegradable bags) on the curb for pickup. Plastic bags will not be accepted. Do not place dirt, rocks, mulch, branches, or garbage in the bags, they will not be picked up.<\/p>\n<p>Leaves are collected by the Highway Department curbside throughout the autumn and up until the first snowfall.<\/p>\n<p>Bags can also be taken to the Transfer Station free-of-charge. The Transfer Station is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 7:30 \u2013 2:30.<\/p>\n<p>Brush: Residents should call the Highway Department at 845-831-0932 or 845-838-5028 to be placed on a list for brush pickup. Brush can be no more than four (4) inches in diameter and no longer than six (6) feet in length. Brush should be placed near the curb and piled all one way. No bulk items allowed at curbside for pickup.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>____________________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Drop-off Station for Bulk Disposal (Transfer Station)<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Transfer Station provides City of Beacon residents with a drop-off facility for garbage, recyclables, yard waste, and other items (see full list below). This service is available for residents who are paid in full on their taxes.<\/p>\n<p>Some items have a minimal drop-off fee. (See fee schedule.) The Transfer Station accepts personal checks for all fees.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Items accepted at the Transfer Station include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Appliances (Not including air conditioners and refrigerators. You can drop those off at Royal Carting\u2019s transfer station in Hopewell Junction for a $20 fee. Please note, Central Hudson will pay customers $100 for used, working refrigerators (and up to two air conditioners per pickup, although all pickups must have a refrigerator.)<br \/>\n\u2022 Car batteries<br \/>\n\u2022 Cardboard \u2014 corrugated, paperboard, etc. (e.g. cereal boxes)<br \/>\n\u2022 Construction and demolition debris<br \/>\n\u2022 Furniture and household furnishings<br \/>\n\u2022 Garbage<br \/>\n\u2022 Metal, scrap (minimal fee)<br \/>\n\u2022 Newsprint, office paper, junk mail, magazines, catalogs<br \/>\n\u2022 Recyclables<br \/>\n\u2022 Tires<br \/>\n\u2022 Wood waste<br \/>\n\u2022 Yard waste (grass clippings may be dumped at no charge)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Items NOT accepted at the Transfer Station include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Explosives<\/li>\n<li>Household hazardous waste (including button batteries, rechargeable batteries, CFL lightbulbs, etc.) Please take CFL lightbulbs and batteries to big box hardware stores like Lowes or Home Depot.<\/li>\n<li>New or used motor oil<\/li>\n<li>Pesticides<\/li>\n<li>Smoke detectors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>____________________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hazardous Waste Drop-off<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Dutchess County Division of Solid Waste Management holds periodic electronic and hazardous waste collection dates.
