Fishkill Avenue and Teller Avenue Rehabilitation Project<\/strong><\/p>\n

August 29, 2024:<\/strong> After more than twenty years of planning, engineering, right-of-way acquisition, and regulatory approvals, in June 2024, the City of Beacon began work on the rehabilitation of Fishkill and Teller Avenues (the \u201cProject.\u201d) The $9 million Project is 95 percent funded through federal and state transportation grants and is anticipated to be completed by July 2025.<\/p>\n

The Project area covers Teller Avenue from Wolcott Avenue (Route 9D) to Main Street and Fishkill Avenue from Main Street to Blackburn Avenue. The Project will replace all existing sidewalks with new 5-foot-wide concrete sidewalks, install new curbing, replace drainage structures throughout the Project area, and repave and restripe the roadway during its final phase.<\/p>\n

The Project also includes safety improvements, including adding a Leading Pedestrian Interval signaling at the intersection of Teller Avenue\/ Fishkill Avenue and Main Street, installing two raised pedestrian crosswalks near Memorial Park (\u201cspeed tables\u201d), and reconfiguring the intersection at Teller Avenue and Wolcott Avenue as a \u201cT\u201d intersection, with the George Washington monument moved to the north side of Teller Avenue. The City is also currently negotiating to extend the sidewalk replacement work further from Blackburn Avenue towards the Town of Fishkill border, if funding allows.<\/p>\n

As of the end of August 2024, many areas of the sidewalk have already been removed and replaced, although some areas have been bypassed. These areas that have not been touched or have been temporarily paved are areas where drainage pipes and\/or catch basins will be installed. These items have a long lead time and will not be installed until later in the fall, after which these areas will be finished with new sidewalks.<\/p>\n
