On Monday, November 18th, 2024, Mayor Kyriacou announced the City was in a Stage 1 Drought Emergency, meaning that the three drinking-water reservoirs have collectively fallen to 60% of their capacity.
This emergency designation has corresponding mandatory restrictions upon commercial and residential water usage:
- Everyone should fix water leaks and do their best to prevent water waste;
- No washing your cars, except at a commercial car wash;
- No washing outdoor areas (e.g., patios, driveways, streets, steps, etc.);
- Stop refilling or drawing City water for fountains, waterfalls, pools, lakes or ponds;
- Watering of lawns, golf courses, shrubs, plants and trees must be limited as follows:
- Watering of vegetation is ONLY permitted between 7-8pm and 10-11pm.
- You may use handheld water containers to water your gardens if your garden is for food.
- Plant nurseries, and other commercial users who are engaged in the business of growing and selling plants on their property must reduce water consumption by at least 15%.
You could be subject to a fine up to $1,000 for violating the City’s Stage 1 Drought restrictions. Thank you for your cooperation in conserving our precious water resource while ongoing drought conditions.
