The Tioronda Garden Club and Beacon Historical Society will be hosting a dedication ceremony honoring former City of Beacon Mayor Clara Lou Gould. The ceremony will include guest speakers and the unveiling of a plaque and bench dedicated to Mayor Gould. All are welcome to join Clara Lou on her 92nd birthday at City Hall on August 29th at 6:30 pm for this special occasion.
Clara Lou Gould served as the Mayor of the City of Beacon from 1990 – 2007. She was the longest serving female mayor in New York State history and the first and only in Beacon. Mayor Gould helped steer the City back to prominence. She was the President of the Tioronda Garden Club, the District Director of the Federated Garden Clubs of New York State, she established Beacon as a Tree City, started the Civic Beautification Program, organized the Greenway Trail initiative and was a founding member of the Patriots Garden on Verplanck Avenue.
