Board of Assessment Review

Home GovernmentBoards & CommitteesBoard of Assessment Review

The City of Beacon Board of Assessment Review meets once a year to hear residents’ challenges to tax assessments. The Board is comprised of five members serving staggered five-year terms. Members are appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the City Council.  Members are required to receive training from the New York State Real Property Services at least once during each term.
The Board meets on the fourth Wednesday of May each year to review and determine all EA-524 assessment reviews. The Board then notifies all complainants of its decision.

Informal meetings with the Assessor’s Office regarding assessment questions or next year’s tax roll can take place throughout the year.

The Assessor is required by law to attend all Board meetings except the meeting at which the Board makes its assessment review decisions.
