Station Overview

The Transfer Station provides City of Beacon residents with a drop-off facility for garbage, recyclables and yard waste. Residents can also pick up free compost and mulch for their gardens.

Some items have a minimal drop-off fee. The Transfer Station accepts personal checks for all fees.

Transfer Station coupons and information about the City’s Free Dump Program are available at the City Clerk’s office.

Free Dump

Beacon residents who are current on their taxes can drop off up to 250 pounds to the Transfer Station between the 3rd Saturday in May and the 3rd Saturday in September. Please be sure to provide proof of address.

Acceptable Items

  • Appliances (non-Freon)
  • Car batteries
  • Cardboard — corrugated, paperboard, etc. (e.g. cereal boxes)
  • Construction and demolition debris
  • Electronic Waste (see list of acceptable items)
  • Furniture and household furnishings
  • Garbage
  • Metal, scrap (minimal fee)
  • Newsprint, office paper, junk mail, magazines, catalogs
  • Recyclables
  • Tires
  • Wood waste
  • Yard waste (grass clippings may be dumped at no charge)
  • Freon-containing appliances (such as air conditioner units, refrigerators, etc.)

Non-Acceptable Items:

  • Explosives
  • Household hazardous waste
  • New or used motor oil
  • Pesticides

The following fees are in effect:

Construction and Demolition Waste $0.18/lb
Stumps $0.18/lb
Logs greater than 12″ Diameter $0.18/lb
Minimum Charge for All Fee Items For 20 lbs or Less $3.00/load
Freon Containing Applicances Air conditioners, refrigerators, water coolers, etc. $15.00
Tires Passenger Vehicles $5.00
Trucks $15.00
Scrap Metal Except Freon Containing Applicances No Fee
Metal Appliances Except Freon Containing Applicances No Fee
Household Garbage (Bagged) No Fee
Cardboard Recycling No Fee
Electronic Waste Recycling No Fee
Use of Grease Dumpster No Fee

We do NOT accept smoke detectors. Please review this article. If your detector is photoelectric, please remove the battery and throw it in your household trash.

For disposal of household hazardous waste (this includes button and rechargeable batteries, CFL light bulbs, etc.) contact the Dutchess County Resource Recovery Agency (DCRRA) at 845-463-6020. Most home improvement stores, such as Lowe’s or Home Depot, also have recycling for these materials available to customers.
